What is happening? Everyday we hear on television how the “wrath of Mother Nature has wrecked havoc” somewhere in our country.
Almost 1000 tornados have hit the USA this year so far, and more than 100 people have died.
Tornados have ripped through the mid-west and east. Torrential rains have caused flooding in several states, with roads washed out, houses submerged, and cars with only their rooftops visible.
Fires in Florida and California have devastated many acres. And now it’s time for the hurricane season to begin.
In China 5.5 million people have been left homeless from the terrible earthquakes that have hit there recently. Nearly 100,000 people died in those quakes.
In Myanmar (Burma) 60,000 or more have died when a cyclone hit that country. There is death, disease, and poverty everywhere for those poor people to contend with. Their main religion is Buddhism.
I realize that China and Myanmar are not Christian countries, and perhaps God is judging them for that?
The book of Job shows us how God works as he controls nature.
See my article: God Controls Nature
Another helpful article explaining the origin of the phrase “Mother Nature that we use so much today is here. God or Mother Nature?
There are also some people in this country today who actually worship Mother Nature, or Mother Earth. This is a false religion but many take it very seriously. They are worshipping the creation rather than the creator.
So, I come back to my beginning question: What is happening?
Do you think God is judging this nation with the wicked weather we are experiencing? I’d like to hear your thoughts on this.
Hello Bonnie,
You said”I realize that China and Myanmar are not Christian countries, and perphaps God is judging them for that?” You gave response:”God is the creator. He created all there is. I believe He is Sovereign and controls everything even nature”It is response. People from Chine and Myanmar are God’s people like Christians.
I think we have one God.
Some people say;”Any Bible believing Christian knows nothing happenes without the knowledge and fereknowledge of God. Many are asking Why? Why did God permit those tragedies? Is God sending America a warning? Some people say Without questions-for so many years , much like God’s servant Job[Job1:1o] God placed a protective heldge around America. And like Job [Job 1:12] it appears God is removing His heldge. On Septemer 11, 2001 God removed His heldge around America. On September 11,2001 ,God blinded the protective eyes of America.” I ask you Bonnie Why? Bible believing Christian said ,will say God Removed His protective hedge and ask oneself Why?
I truly believe there is link between Science and the Bible. I truly believe that there is link between evolution-evolutionary biology and the Bible.I truly believe that there is not conflict between Science and the Bible. I truly belive there is conflict between believers-fundamentalist-conservative and Science.

Hi Setlana,
There is only one true God. Many people worship gods that are not the one
true God. I do believe that there are Christian people living in countries
where the main religion is not Christianity. And, I said that perhaps God
was judging China and Myanmar, because they are not basically Christian
countries.
We are all people who were created by God. So, we could say we are all
God’s people in that sense. But, because sin entered into the world then we
all became children of Satan. God said the wages of sin is death, so we all
had that sentence put on us, no matter where we live. But, God sent His
son, Jesus to die for all of us and pay the penalty for our sins. It is
only those people who accept Jesus Christ and what He did that God calls his
own now. Do you see that?

I’m just saying that perhaps God was angry with those nations because they
did not turn to Christ, that He allowed those terrible things to happen and
lots of people were killed. Sometimes he judges nations, as he shows us in
the Old Testament.
Yes, I believe God is judging America. We started out a Christian nation
and God blessed us. We were a god-fearing nation. We even were able to
send missionaries to all parts of the world. But, somewhere along the line
we turned our back on God. We allowed abortion to be legal, I think that
was one big mistake we’ve done. There are many others. We are not really a
Christian nation any more, and to me that is sad, and that is why God is
taking that hedge or protection away from us. We should confess and repent
as a nation, but we don’t. Things are just getting worse.
I think this is happening because God is working out His own plan. He is
Sovereign and is in control of the nations. He is working out a plan that
is much bigger than our minds can think of. So, we have to trust that He is
doing His will and be satisfied with that. We have to trust that if we are
Christians he will take care of us even in the hard times. If we should
have to die then we would go to be with the Lord and that would be a far
better place for us anyway.
As far as evolution I believe that God created the world in 6 literal days
and rested on the 7th. I do believe there is science in the Bible. I
believe there are many scientist that agree with the Bible.
Thanks again…It is good to talk with you.
Blessings,
Bonnie

Hi Paula,
Thank you for your comment.
I truly believe that science ends up proving the Bible is true.
The thing about Mother Nature, could you tell me where in the Bible she is talked about?
God is shown as a male in the Bible and if they were one, they would be both male and female?
I believe God is the creator. He created all there is. I believe He is Sovereign and controls everything, even nature. He created nature and knows how it works. There doesn’t have to be a “Mother Nature.” When we do that we are giving nature a “person hood.” Nature is not a person.
God is a spirit and has intelligence and personality. But, nature doesn’t. Nature does not have a spirit.
I can see how global warming could be real. It makes sense that it could happen, but I do think they have over blown it a lot. I believe that we as humans on this earth need to be good stewards of our planet. We have a responsibility to do that. But, I don’t worry about the earth becoming terrible because I know that God is sovereign and will not allow anything to happen that he doesn’t know about. So, I trust him in this area.
The Bible teaches that there will be terrible times on this earth, but then after those times, there will be 1000 years of peace and things will flourish. So, there is still a long time to go with this old earth.
I agree with you that we should be aware of what we are doing and with all the technology that has been given us, we need to be good stewards of that technology. But, you see, Paula, man has a fallen nature. If you think about it most of the mess that has been created by man is caused by selfishness and greed. Can you agree with that? I often say, “follow the money,” and you find the answer.
It’s interesting to think about the earth being flat or round. I believe that it wasn’t until 1492 when Columbus discovered America by mistake, (He thought he was sailing to India.) that they learned that the earth was round. Prior to this way back in the prophet Isaiah’s time, God gave him the wisdom to say that the earth was round. The book of Isaiah was written about 700bc.
Isaiah 40: 22 ” He sits enthroned about the circle of the earth, and it’s people are like grasshoppers.” Isn’t that amazing? Way back then we are told the earth is round.
And, in the book of Job 26:7 NASB “He stretches out the north over empty space And hangs the earth on nothing. They say this is the oldest book of the Bible and Job may have been a contemporary of Moses. So, it is an ancient book indeed. And, here it tells us that the earth hangs on nothing. Amazing? It is right too! I believe that true science and the Bible will agree.
I think you would find it facinating to study the Bible along with the other books you are studying.
Blessings,
Bonnie

I’ve had a similar discussion with my right wing, minister brother-in-law. He doesn’t grasp the link between science and the bible. Where I see brilliance in the laws of nature that allow life (suggesting a wise creator), he pooh poohs the idea that God and Mother Nature are one and was rather annoyed when he came into my home and saw a book by a leading anthropologist because he sees his beliefs as the only belief worth having. He also doesn’t understand how Global Warming can be real. We are producing toxins in the atmosphere and mother nature is responding in kind in the search for Balance – violent storms and drought, depending on your physical location.
We have free will and the capacity to understand our own actions. Why deny that we have some control over the situation by suggesting that it is connected with a judgmental God? Aren’t we shrugging off the responsibility given to us to be good stewards of our earth, the very foundation on which our lives are lived? We were given the intelligence to create the technology that is damaging our earth and we also have the intelligence to change our behavior to work with the laws of nature to correct the problems we’ve created. We seem to be stuck in between, with some claiming that this is a sign of God’s unhappiness or judgment against those who are being killed by ‘mother nature.’ We are repeating mistakes that have been made before.
Scientists explain the reasons very clearly. Looking back at lessons we should have learned time and time again, many of us seem determined to repeat the same lesson. Scientists were once killed or publicly repudiated for stating the earth was flat which flew in the face of religious beliefs at that time. It is most definitely not flat. The religious beliefs changed because of scientific evidence. Yet, in our times, we continue to pooh pooh scientific evidence that actually supports the existence of a Creator. God and Mother Nature are one in the same, so those who worship Mother Nature worship the Creator. How can you not see that they are one? How can you even suggest that those who serve earth as good stewards are studying a false religion? Does that mean that those who are harming the earth are being true to God? The logic is not there to support that statement.
We are one people, no matter the personal beliefs, the skin color or the location of our homes. Let’s not shrug off our responsibility to each other and our home (the earth) by suggesting that we don’t have free will or share similar beliefs – no matter what religion we study or believe. All the religions have basic tenets that work well together. Instead of seeing the differences, work with the commonalities. We share more commonalities than differences. Don’t shoot the messenger with judgments that are your own, not the God that created us.
