Does the phrase, “Mother Nature,” bug you as much as it does me? Who is in control anyway? God or Mother Nature?
I can’t believe I heard it again today on the news, “Mother Nature unleased her wrath again today!” They were talking about the awful tornados that tore their way across the country. Every time there is some unusual weather event someone called, “Mother Nature,” gets the blame or credit. Who is this Mother Nature anyway?
The dictionary says: Mother Nature, noun
“The personification of nature as a powerful and nurturing woman.”
Nature is everything that is not man-made according to the dictionary. Therefore, nature is God made.
Wikipedia says:
“Mother Nature is a personification of nature.”
Every time we get tornados, hurricaines, blizzards, floods, and other weather woes the news and weather media blame it all on Mother Nature. Not only that, but when we have wonderful weather and a beautiful day they say something like, “Mother Nature smiled on us today with this warm weather.” She gets the credit and the glory. So, what is the real story?
God says in Exodus 20:3, NASB “You shall have no other gods before Me.” This is one of the ten commandments, and is serious business.
God is to be praised and worshipped. Not other gods. We in our nation are getting very careless in this area. When we hear the phrase, “Mother Nature”, used over and over it becomes common. We use it without thinking of the true meaning behind it. Most of us wouldn’t intentionally praise another god.
Did you know that God is in control of the weather not Mother Nature?
The Bible has a lot to say about God and how He controls the weather.
(Psalms 78:26 NASB) He caused the east wind to blow in the heavens And by His power He directed the south wind.
(Psalms 107:25 NASB) For He spoke and raised up a stormy wind, Which lifted up the waves of the sea.
(Psalms 135:7 NASB) He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; Who makes lightnings for the rain, Who brings forth the wind from His treasuries.
(Psalms 148:8 NASB) Fire and hail, snow and clouds; Stormy wind, fulfilling His word;
(Proverbs 30:4 NASB) Who has ascended into heaven and descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has wrapped the waters in His garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name or His son’s name? Surely you know!
(Mark 4:39 NASB) And He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Hush, be still.” And the wind died down and it became perfectly calm.
God created the Heavens and the Earth and He controls the weather. So, you may ask, “Why does God allow this terrible weather to cause us all kinds of problems?” The answer is that God is Sovereign. He can do whatever He wants. He is in control and nothing gets by Him.
Have you ever stopped to think that God allows bad things to happen to our nation to get our attention? We have lost our moral footing. In our society today anything goes. The news certainly validates this. There used to be sin and shame, but it has been replaced with nothing is right or wrong.
But, God says:
(Colossians 3:5 NASB) Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.
(Colossians 3:6 NASB) For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon the sons of disobedience,
“The sovereignty of God is that golden sceptre in his hand by which he will make all bow, either by his word or by his works, by his mercies or by his judgements.” Thomas Brooks
The world says, “You can’t fool Mother Nature.” I say, “You can’t fool God.” He is still there, He is in control, and He holds us in the palm of His hand. We need to cry out for mercy!

the comments by the unsaved are a bit sad, but unfortunatly we were all once in the dark, just as some of these people.
And satan has them. That is the fact. They will never understand because the are not in the light and they are still wearing a veil. We know the truth, so we can pray, and we know that whatever we ask in jesus name, He will answer. We are blessed, we have our eyes opened, praise the lord, because just as He said, “if you are not for me you are againts me”. Eternety is a long time! so lets stop arguing about this and start praying.
see ya

Thank you Brian for pointing out my error. I wasn’t thinking deep enough when I used that quote. You are certainly right if it said “before the recording of history,” there would be no record. 🙂 I’ve edited my message.
Thanks for your input.

I love the overall premise Bonnie, and I appreciate your conviction regarding truth and declaring it, but consistency has to be a central issue for us when we step out to do so. Stop and think with me for just a moment regarding the following sentence and how it subtly but but fully contradicts the very word of God.
“Long before history was recorded, goddesses were worshiped for their association with fertility, fecundity, and agricultural bounty.”
First, how do we have any knowledge of these “facts” if they occurred before history was recorded?
Even misguided Andrew, bless his heart, will tell you that history is a foundational issue in regards to the truth of any written word being trustworthy. The bible is, unfotunately for Andrew, one of the most historically accurate piece of literature on the planet.
The word “prehistoric” and it’s very premise are both unable to be substantiated from an earthly standpoint, because God has given us the history of our planet and all that it contains from the very “beginning.” Hence my issue with the above statement.
Now as for Andrew’s superior knowledge, intellect, and sources of information, his 13 billion year old “book” embodies the very “faith only” element that he claims to be superior to (and free from). He is right that science and religion are not separate by nature, because in reality, science is merely man’s discovery of what God has made and gives us a mere shadowy glipse into how he did it. The separation between science and religion only comes in when true science (observable, testable, and repeatable) is tainted by the materialistic and uniformitarian presuppositions of man. (Do you know what those words even mean, Andrew?) In spite of his impressive list of sources, it appears that Andrew has never closely studied the source of the presumed ages of the earth, the very foundational assumptions of his 13 billion year old book of knowledge. Assuming he even knows they exist, his scientific prowess in nuclear half-life consistency, helium from U-238 in Zircons, Granite radiohalo records, discrepancies between rubidium-strontium and potassium-argon isochron methods all appears to be tainted and effectively trumped by his pantheistic and humanistic assumptions.
Andrew brings his faith-based assumptions to the table and interpets the scientific facts in light of them, just like we do. The problem is, however, he either does not recognize it or refuses to admit it. True intellectuals both recognize their presuppostions are honest and humble enough to admit it.

Bonnie,
I agree with you wholeheartedly because we do know the truth. Jesus said that we will know the truth and the truth will set us free.

Andrew,
I will never agree that Mother Nature and God are a continuum! God is God! There is no “mother nature.” There is only nature. And, God created nature. We are not to worship the creation, but the Creator.
Andrew, you are being deceived. You have been lead to believe a lie. I’m sorry about that but that is the truth.
If you continue on the path you have taken you will never spend eternity in Heaven, but will be forever tormeted in Hell.
Jesus Christ, God’ only Son, who is diety, died on the cross in your place to pay the price of the sins you have committed. He died for you! He died for me! We all have sinned as the Bible clearly teaches. Romans 3:23 says “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”
and then in Romans 6:23 it says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Also, I want to share something else with you from the Bible. You can take it for what it’s worth.
When God’s people were about to enter the land of Canaan, God gave them a very serious warning not to do the detestable things the Canaanites were doing.
Deuteronomy 18:10-13 “Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist, or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord, and because of thes detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you. You must be blameless before the Lord your God.”
We are not to resort to such sources for our information, guidance or revelation. Rather, we are to listen to God’s Holy Word.

So by being born we’ve sinned? Is this supposed to make us feel guilty, like we owe God something? I don’t think so.
