Does the phrase, “Mother Nature,” bug you as much as it does me? Who is in control anyway? God or Mother Nature?
I can’t believe I heard it again today on the news, “Mother Nature unleased her wrath again today!” They were talking about the awful tornados that tore their way across the country. Every time there is some unusual weather event someone called, “Mother Nature,” gets the blame or credit. Who is this Mother Nature anyway?
The dictionary says: Mother Nature, noun
“The personification of nature as a powerful and nurturing woman.”
Nature is everything that is not man-made according to the dictionary. Therefore, nature is God made.
Wikipedia says:
“Mother Nature is a personification of nature.”
Every time we get tornados, hurricaines, blizzards, floods, and other weather woes the news and weather media blame it all on Mother Nature. Not only that, but when we have wonderful weather and a beautiful day they say something like, “Mother Nature smiled on us today with this warm weather.” She gets the credit and the glory. So, what is the real story?
God says in Exodus 20:3, NASB “You shall have no other gods before Me.” This is one of the ten commandments, and is serious business.
God is to be praised and worshipped. Not other gods. We in our nation are getting very careless in this area. When we hear the phrase, “Mother Nature”, used over and over it becomes common. We use it without thinking of the true meaning behind it. Most of us wouldn’t intentionally praise another god.
Did you know that God is in control of the weather not Mother Nature?
The Bible has a lot to say about God and how He controls the weather.
(Psalms 78:26 NASB) He caused the east wind to blow in the heavens And by His power He directed the south wind.
(Psalms 107:25 NASB) For He spoke and raised up a stormy wind, Which lifted up the waves of the sea.
(Psalms 135:7 NASB) He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; Who makes lightnings for the rain, Who brings forth the wind from His treasuries.
(Psalms 148:8 NASB) Fire and hail, snow and clouds; Stormy wind, fulfilling His word;
(Proverbs 30:4 NASB) Who has ascended into heaven and descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has wrapped the waters in His garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name or His son’s name? Surely you know!
(Mark 4:39 NASB) And He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Hush, be still.” And the wind died down and it became perfectly calm.
God created the Heavens and the Earth and He controls the weather. So, you may ask, “Why does God allow this terrible weather to cause us all kinds of problems?” The answer is that God is Sovereign. He can do whatever He wants. He is in control and nothing gets by Him.
Have you ever stopped to think that God allows bad things to happen to our nation to get our attention? We have lost our moral footing. In our society today anything goes. The news certainly validates this. There used to be sin and shame, but it has been replaced with nothing is right or wrong.
But, God says:
(Colossians 3:5 NASB) Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.
(Colossians 3:6 NASB) For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon the sons of disobedience,
“The sovereignty of God is that golden sceptre in his hand by which he will make all bow, either by his word or by his works, by his mercies or by his judgements.” Thomas Brooks
The world says, “You can’t fool Mother Nature.” I say, “You can’t fool God.” He is still there, He is in control, and He holds us in the palm of His hand. We need to cry out for mercy!

My answer is that Mother Nature is the creator. She is God himself. She is all gods and goddess upon the earth, in heaven and hell.
You say…… God, along with Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit created the universe and all that is in it. When we look at the beauty around us we are seeing God’s handiwork. He is not in the trees, for example, but He made the tree. They are a result of His work. He also created mankind.
I say…That Mother Nature is the trees, the sky, the animals, the humans, the earth the universe. Your knowledge is limited to the bibles teachings. Mine is not. Your understandings are based on faith alone. Mine is not. Your only source of reference is the bible. Mine is not. You are armed only with a 2000 year old book. I am not. I have a 13 billion year old book of knowledge. There are no original thoughts or understandings from you yourself behind your words.Your knowledge is limited to what you are told by the christian church or what it says in the bible. I am not.
You say…I believe in nature, but not “Mother Nature.” You say she is a Goddess and creator.
I say….If you believe in nature you need to learn what nature actualy is before you abolish Mother Nature as a Goddess. Read my first comment. The first principle of the natural order and the words of Mother Nature before you reply.

Andrew, I am wondering where did you get this information from?

God is transcendent. He transcends time and space. He can be in the past, present, and future all at the same time. He has all knowledge and all power.
You mentioned an afterlife, but did not say what that consisted of. God says there is an afterlife. We will either spend eternity in Heaven or Hell depending upon our believe in Jesus Christ. That is an awesome thing.
You do not mention anything about sin or morality. Do you believe in sin at all?
No person has any excuse when it comes down to it. Everyone knows in their hearts that there is a God.
Romans 1:20 (Amplified Bible) “For ever since the creation of the world His invisible nature and attributes, that is, His eternal power and divinity have been made intelligible and clearly discernible in and through the things that have been made–His handiworks. So (men)are without excuse==altogether without any defense or justification:”
Psalm: 19:1 (Amplified Bible) “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament show and proclaims His handiwork.”
Thanks for your comments.

Mother Nature is a Goddess. The whole universe, sun and earth are all Mother Nature. She is all life upon the earth and that which is beyond our world. Mother Nature is a unique special form and species of life known as a continuum. An imortal being. A complex living multidimension of mind, space, time, matter, reality, life and existence. Mother Nature is everywhere and is everything. Mother Nature is all gods and goddess upon the earth and all religions are her. She is a natural physical compendium of living knowledge that is both our actual existence and our actual reality in the world around us. She is the foundation of all science known to humankind. She is the first principle of the natural order. She is the creator of us all.
Mother Nature is nature itself. She is so complex it is difficult to grasp the concept of her multidimensional existence. It is difficult to comprehend a four and more dimensional creature living inside a three dimensional universe. It is hard to imagine what such a creature would look like. Mother Nature looks like all things and is all life forms and the creatures upon the earth including the humans. She is also all matter in space and space itself around all life. The form she has choosen to take with a mind to express herself upon earth in other ways is human. Mother Natures religion is life itself. Her natural bible is the physical universe and earth around us all. We are inside her living knowledge and mind which is our reality. We are an expression of her personality like all life is itself.
The first principle of the natural order is mother nature. She is the laws of the natural order ( the physics of the universe and nature itself) such as time, space, matter, reality, gravity, atoms, motion ect are the tools of mother natures methods of creation. Her powers of creation are locked up in the universe and earth itself. She evolves life through evolution from the elements of the universe. These are science facts of how our universe and world work. Mother Nature was upon the earth long before the christian religion ever arrived. She has built many civilizations and species of life that have roamed the earth for the past four and a half billion years. Most people know who mother nature is. If you ask them they will tell you she is nature. The bible cannot erradicate her from the peoples minds and eyes. Even for those whom believe in god.
The purpose of your life is to learn from mother natures world around you. To develope and educate your mind with her knowledge and build your soul ready for an after life. To have children and continue the human species. The female is the secret power behind all life. They are the bottom line. No god or human can survive or reproduce life without them. Most creatures are born from females unless they are (A) sexual. The origin is female based. It is not neccessery for females to reproduce with males in certain species of life. Thats why human males are born with and still have redundant nipples on their bodies. They were biologicaly changed to males from female in the egg or womb. So who has all the powers of creation? Mother Nature.
I have written the above to help you and your community of readers to better understand what mother nature and god are. If you can understand the above, you can see more clearly the whole picture. You are all getting very confused with god and mother nature when it is all very simple to understand. If you would like any more knowledge please let me know. You can e-mail me but please do not publish my e-mail address on your website. Please publish the whole comment or not at all. Hi LisaMarie,
Sorry this is so late, but I’ve been really busy this summer. I did read your post with great interest.
I can identify with you in several areas: I too did not grow up in a “Christian home” nor go to church, gain any knowledge about the Bible, and Bible stories. In fact, I was pretty much anti church growing up. I made fun of people who went to church.
However, I did believe in God. I grew up in the country which was beautiful with all of nature around me to enjoy. I remember sitting on a bank near the woods where no one could see me and talking to God. I’d tell him all my problems and felt better. So, I guess I really did believe in God way back then. You and I both shared the wonderful experience of exploring nature at an early age, and really enjoyed it. I was always down by the creek, fishing, hunting, exploring the woods, running through the fields, playing, ice skating, jumping in the leaves, climbing trees, playing cowboys and indians with my cousins and whatever else we could think up. Those are precious memories for me today.
I also share your feeling of peace and serenity when you are around nature. Wherever I’ve lived since I’ve grown up and left home, I’d always try to find myself a “quiet secret place,” where I could go out in nature, not be able to see any houses or people, and just relax and meditate on the natural sounds, smells and wonder around me. After I became a Christian, I added a new element to this as I learned that God created everything in nature, therefore, I could also praise Him for this wonder about me. As I listen to the birds sing now, I feel they are praising God too.
Now, I come to something I don’t agree with you on. You say God is in everything; every human, tree, blade of grass, etc. That is a philosophy that is called Pantheism. Pan=”everything” theos=”God.) Or, God is All and All is God.
Some people believe that, but it is not really true. What is true is that there is a God, who created the universe out of nothing. God created everything in the universe. Humans, trees, flowers, grass are all of God’s creations. There is a danger of worshipping the creation instead of the creator.
I’d like to explain here that it doesn’t matter what my opinion is. It doesn’t matter what your opinion is or what any other person’s opinion is. What matters is what the Bible says. It is our authority. So, I’d suggest that you start reading the Bible if you are not doing so and see for yourself. You will find out that God created everything right in the first book of Geneses. You will learn about human nature and how we all need a Savior. You will learn that nature is to be loved and admired and God is to be glorified for his wonderful work.
We can’t compare God to us as you have, reasoning that we are superior beings on earth, so God must be a superior being over us. But, if we look to the Bible we will find, again in Genesis, that man was created in God’s image.
Genesis 1:26-27 “God said, Let Us (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) make mankind in Our image, after Our likeness; and let them have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the (tame) beasts, and over all of the earth, and over every thing that creeps upon the earth. So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God he created him; male and female He created them.” (Amplified version)
Then God told them to be fruitful and fill the earth, and have dominion over nature.
God is not physical as mankind is, but He is spiritual. So, when he created man in His own image that means he created man with a spiritual side. That is how we are like God.
You are right that mankind has been violent throughout history. That is because when Adam and Eve disobeyed God and sinned, that caused human kind to have a sin nature from that time on. It is our sin nature that makes us so unkind, and violent to others. That is what must be changed.
Thanks for your comments and I hope we can talk more.
Blessings,
Bonnie

Being a young adult who didn’t grow up in a ‘Christian home’ nor go to church on a regular basis or gain virtually any knowledge about the Bible and biblical stories; when I hear things mentioned about God I have very conflicting ideas – particularly with the knowledge that the majority of human conflicts began with personal opinions over religion and ‘God’. Being lucky enough to grow up in New Brunswick where nature was plentiful, I had a ton of experiences throughout each of the seasons going hiking, fishing, biking, etc. through forest trails, meadows and fields; exploring marshlands, ponds, creeks, rivers and lakes. In that time I developed a love for nature that one could say opened my heart to ‘God’. From studying Psychology I can tell you it’s my personal experiences that make me automatically on guard when a stranger speaks to me about ‘God’, yet when someone mentions ‘Mother Nature’ I have an automatic feeling of peace, tranquility, harmony, and an enormous power fill my heart – the same feeling that Christians have when speaking about God. Why? Simply because of my life experiences. God exists and everyone feels ITS power (I refuse to believe God is a he or a she – both sexes are flawed) whether they like to admit it or not. Where do you see proof of God? In all things living – what commonly is referred to as Mother Nature. God is in every human, every animal, every tree, every blade of grass. I think the conflict derives from the title God and all that the stories imply – the Bible implies that God is a superior being – is that superior being one ‘person’ in your mind? It’s hard to think otherwise, since on Earth humans are the superior being – thus giving us the idea that ‘God’ is a type of human being, but superior. Yet humans are a primitive, violent species that are flawed in numerous ways – history repeats itself because of this. Thus, how could someone who created such a beautiful Earth be even remotely like a human – particularly since humans are what is destroying the Earth. I’m getting off topic, but basically I don’t think it’s so bad that the news refers to major weather conditions as ‘Mother Nature’ for a couple of reasons. 1) If they referred to it as ‘God’ there would be such a conflicting dispute it would just be ridiculous – not to mention the company would likely get sued. 2) Think of it this way – at least the news is referring to major weather conditions as something other than just that – a major weather condition. By referring to a slew of tornadoes as ‘Mother Nature unleashing her wrath again today!’ the subconscious automatically begins to think of a superior being who is in control of nature – which in turn will open new doors for religious thought and conversation amongst common people. The more people are thinking about a ‘superior being’ – whether they refer to it as Mother Nature or not – the more likely people will be to open their Bible and just see if it’s true what everyone’s saying about the end of earth coming and the return of Jesus… unfortunately fear is a driving force – again, the reason so many wars broke out over religion. And like always, history repeats itself!
