Does the phrase, “Mother Nature,” bug you as much as it does me? Who is in control anyway? God or Mother Nature?
I can’t believe I heard it again today on the news, “Mother Nature unleased her wrath again today!” They were talking about the awful tornados that tore their way across the country. Every time there is some unusual weather event someone called, “Mother Nature,” gets the blame or credit. Who is this Mother Nature anyway?
The dictionary says: Mother Nature, noun
“The personification of nature as a powerful and nurturing woman.”
Nature is everything that is not man-made according to the dictionary. Therefore, nature is God made.
Wikipedia says:
“Mother Nature is a personification of nature.”
Every time we get tornados, hurricaines, blizzards, floods, and other weather woes the news and weather media blame it all on Mother Nature. Not only that, but when we have wonderful weather and a beautiful day they say something like, “Mother Nature smiled on us today with this warm weather.” She gets the credit and the glory. So, what is the real story?
God says in Exodus 20:3, NASB “You shall have no other gods before Me.” This is one of the ten commandments, and is serious business.
God is to be praised and worshipped. Not other gods. We in our nation are getting very careless in this area. When we hear the phrase, “Mother Nature”, used over and over it becomes common. We use it without thinking of the true meaning behind it. Most of us wouldn’t intentionally praise another god.
Did you know that God is in control of the weather not Mother Nature?
The Bible has a lot to say about God and how He controls the weather.
(Psalms 78:26 NASB) He caused the east wind to blow in the heavens And by His power He directed the south wind.
(Psalms 107:25 NASB) For He spoke and raised up a stormy wind, Which lifted up the waves of the sea.
(Psalms 135:7 NASB) He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; Who makes lightnings for the rain, Who brings forth the wind from His treasuries.
(Psalms 148:8 NASB) Fire and hail, snow and clouds; Stormy wind, fulfilling His word;
(Proverbs 30:4 NASB) Who has ascended into heaven and descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has wrapped the waters in His garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name or His son’s name? Surely you know!
(Mark 4:39 NASB) And He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Hush, be still.” And the wind died down and it became perfectly calm.
God created the Heavens and the Earth and He controls the weather. So, you may ask, “Why does God allow this terrible weather to cause us all kinds of problems?” The answer is that God is Sovereign. He can do whatever He wants. He is in control and nothing gets by Him.
Have you ever stopped to think that God allows bad things to happen to our nation to get our attention? We have lost our moral footing. In our society today anything goes. The news certainly validates this. There used to be sin and shame, but it has been replaced with nothing is right or wrong.
But, God says:
(Colossians 3:5 NASB) Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.
(Colossians 3:6 NASB) For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon the sons of disobedience,
“The sovereignty of God is that golden sceptre in his hand by which he will make all bow, either by his word or by his works, by his mercies or by his judgements.” Thomas Brooks
The world says, “You can’t fool Mother Nature.” I say, “You can’t fool God.” He is still there, He is in control, and He holds us in the palm of His hand. We need to cry out for mercy!

Hi Archie, You know what? God is not evil. God is loving and kind, but He is also just. That is where people get confused. From so much teaching today we’d think God is some kind of gentle grandfather who sits up there in heaven somewhere on His throne just waiting to extend us our every wish and desire. Not so.
You are exactly right that many people do die each year because of natural disasters. I think one thing you don’t understand is that God is sovereign. That means that He created us, He owns us, and He can allow anything he wants to come into our lives. You see people who have not repented and turned their lives over to God are by nature enemies of God. They are condemned already. Is it any wonder why bad things happen to them? Sometimes God allows bad things into our lives to get our attention so that we turn from our wicked ways and turn to Him. He is in control, and He is working out His master plan.
There are many instances where God judged people, especially in the old testament, and allowed them to die. Why did He do that? Was He unloving? No, He knew their hearts and He knew that they disobeyed Him and would continue to do so. He allowed them to be an example so that others might be spared.
God wants to bless you Archie. He wants you to turn to Him and give Him ALL of yourself. No hold back. I pray that you will do that.

You are missing the point Bonlou. You keep hiding behind the Bible which was written by MAN not GOD. GOD can not read or write except in your imagination. The Bible should be considered a guide on how to live ones life if they so chose to do so. Its not the end of the world if you do not. It also has hundreds of misleading and mythical lies in it. But I’m sure you have passage to dispel my comment somewhere. I believe there is a GOD… just not yours! I just happen to call her by the name that unfortunately MAN made up. It’s called “language” and everything has a name or a word to associated to it and I prefer Mother Nature. I fits more accurately than simply GOD. They are one in the same. I also never have to worry if mine is there because mine is alive and well. I can touch it, I can see it, I smell it, I breath it. Mine is all around me every living moment of the day. I accept mine for what is is in reality. That’s the difference. I don’t need to pray to mine because I understand it doesn’t matter. What happens… happens. We can only control what we own and we do not own this world. We are only passengers in it. We can only control how we treat it and that there is where we have failed miserably. If your GOD was as you say he is then he would fix it. You would wake up the next day and low and behold as new clean world. Just from your prayers. But that isn’t going to happen. You know it and I know it but you just haven’t accepted it. Goodbye and enjoy your Bible.

If you refuse to not believe in Almighty God who created the heavens and the earth then it is obvious your walking in darkness and the god of the world (Satan) has blinded your minds and hearts that you don’t believe. The heavens declare the Glory of God so you are without excuse on the day of judgement when all have to stand before the judge of all the Universe. Even ignorance is not an excuse. The Gospel of Jesus Christ will be preached to the ends of the earth that all may hear the good news and respond. If people choose to except the Gospel it is because their deeds are evil and they love darkness rather than light. Those who refuse to except the existence of Almighty God do so at their own peril and all that is left for them before they they pass away to confront their maker is that perhaps their eyes and heart will be opened by the mercy and grace of God otherwise it is too late as after death comes judgement.

Hi Archie, I’m sorry to hear that you have turned your back on Jesus. You must believe in God when you look around you at the heavenly stars, the beautiful flowers, trees, water falls, and all of God’s creation.
What is the reason you turned your back on God? I mean if you were baptized 20 years ago there must have been some reason for that. I’m curious as to what changed your mind? What do you mean your wife is a Jesus nut? And, why are you trying to change her?

Well I got sick when I was 12 years old with chrohns , I’m now 45 years old and I bean sick since I was 12 years old ,
I’m not asking for any pity , I’m just explaining my life , in 1990 Tampa fl , I got sick went to the hospital , I sheared a toom with this man , he ask me do you believe in god ? I told him NO , he starting talking about god to me every day for about 2 weeks , after I left the hospital he ask if I would like to join his church , I said yes , after a few months going to church i became baptized , then a year later got sick again and again and again , I’m in the hospital right now rotting this at 12:56 am
I tried to have faith in god but he was never there for me ,being sick for over 30 years can and will make anyone lose their faith in god , I tried so many times for god to heal me to at least take some of the pain away and it never does ,
Unless I run to the hospital where they give me strong pain killers , I really wish there was a loving god out there in the heavens that cared about his children whom are in pain ,
I really wish there was I’d be the first person in line , but like I said been there that , thanks bonlou

As it has been said. “GOD” is a man made deity. Only man created the idea of a GOD. Animals didn’t. Only thinking humans did. And no “man” can ascend to any God like status because “GOD” is an imagined idea that “man” has place in every ones mind! Get over it or better yet move up to a high level of thinking. Mother Nature is also a “man made” deity but guess what? It can be seen, it can be experienced. You can smell it, see it, touch it. She is also non prejudicial in what she spawns in life or death. She doesn’t care who lives or dies in natural occurrences. Christians believe in GOD as being benevolent. Showing mercy and striking down evil. Oh My GOD… the Devil! Another “myth” made up by superstitious minds. Actually, morons would be a better description. Just another ideal to help promote the Bible, nothing more.
To all that reads this, I respect all your beliefs. If you want to believe when you die you go to the land of “Zorack” and become universal travelers, so be it. But in your thinking you should open your minds to the reality that when you die…your dead. That’s all there is. You should be asking the question why do all these people die every day for no reason. From traffic accidents to fires, to tornadoes, earthquakes, etc. And innocent children are included. If your “GOD” is so powerful and great, why does he let them die? Mine doesn’t care because that’s just the way it is.

But, the wise knows in his heart there is God.
It takes something called “faith” to believe in God because, you are right, we cannot see Him. We believe in Him by faith, and by hearing the Word we are given this faith to believe. Romans 10:17 NASB So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.
God holds the keys to life and death. He knows when we will be born and when we will die. He knows about our accidents, illnesses, and sorrows. He allows them for His own purposes and nothing happens that He doesn’t allow. He is sovereign. He created the nature all around us and I look upon it in wonder. It is beautiful and something we all can enjoy.
There is a literal heaven and there is a literal hell. I believe all of this because it is in the Bible and I truly believe the Bible and am not ashamed of that. If you choose to not believe that is your choice and God has given us all the ability to make that choice.
I challenge you to start reading the Bible as I did one day long ago when my life was so much different. I was down and out. I was into drinking and other things that were not honoring to God. I was curious about the Bible and when I finally started reading it I found the answers to my life.
