Does the phrase, “Mother Nature,” bug you as much as it does me? Who is in control anyway? God or Mother Nature?
I can’t believe I heard it again today on the news, “Mother Nature unleased her wrath again today!” They were talking about the awful tornados that tore their way across the country. Every time there is some unusual weather event someone called, “Mother Nature,” gets the blame or credit. Who is this Mother Nature anyway?
The dictionary says: Mother Nature, noun
“The personification of nature as a powerful and nurturing woman.”
Nature is everything that is not man-made according to the dictionary. Therefore, nature is God made.
Wikipedia says:
“Mother Nature is a personification of nature.”
Every time we get tornados, hurricaines, blizzards, floods, and other weather woes the news and weather media blame it all on Mother Nature. Not only that, but when we have wonderful weather and a beautiful day they say something like, “Mother Nature smiled on us today with this warm weather.” She gets the credit and the glory. So, what is the real story?
God says in Exodus 20:3, NASB “You shall have no other gods before Me.” This is one of the ten commandments, and is serious business.
God is to be praised and worshipped. Not other gods. We in our nation are getting very careless in this area. When we hear the phrase, “Mother Nature”, used over and over it becomes common. We use it without thinking of the true meaning behind it. Most of us wouldn’t intentionally praise another god.
Did you know that God is in control of the weather not Mother Nature?
The Bible has a lot to say about God and how He controls the weather.
(Psalms 78:26 NASB) He caused the east wind to blow in the heavens And by His power He directed the south wind.
(Psalms 107:25 NASB) For He spoke and raised up a stormy wind, Which lifted up the waves of the sea.
(Psalms 135:7 NASB) He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; Who makes lightnings for the rain, Who brings forth the wind from His treasuries.
(Psalms 148:8 NASB) Fire and hail, snow and clouds; Stormy wind, fulfilling His word;
(Proverbs 30:4 NASB) Who has ascended into heaven and descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has wrapped the waters in His garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name or His son’s name? Surely you know!
(Mark 4:39 NASB) And He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Hush, be still.” And the wind died down and it became perfectly calm.
God created the Heavens and the Earth and He controls the weather. So, you may ask, “Why does God allow this terrible weather to cause us all kinds of problems?” The answer is that God is Sovereign. He can do whatever He wants. He is in control and nothing gets by Him.
Have you ever stopped to think that God allows bad things to happen to our nation to get our attention? We have lost our moral footing. In our society today anything goes. The news certainly validates this. There used to be sin and shame, but it has been replaced with nothing is right or wrong.
But, God says:
(Colossians 3:5 NASB) Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.
(Colossians 3:6 NASB) For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon the sons of disobedience,
“The sovereignty of God is that golden sceptre in his hand by which he will make all bow, either by his word or by his works, by his mercies or by his judgements.” Thomas Brooks
The world says, “You can’t fool Mother Nature.” I say, “You can’t fool God.” He is still there, He is in control, and He holds us in the palm of His hand. We need to cry out for mercy!

Deanna couldn’t say it any better myself and Thank You!. And RiP, I’m glad you have come to grips with your spirituality. I’m very spiritual myself and most don’t believe it. I’ve just reach a much higher level in my beliefs. I’ve just come to realize two very important things in life. When you are “dead” you ARE dead! And two, what ever this planet or universe dishes out we have no choice in the matter and need to accept that fact. We as humans are so insignificant in the over all scheme of things its not even funny. A Tsunami wiped out 250,000 plus people in 2004 in one event alone. Let’s not forget the “black plaque” although it is believe this was caused by man’s hygienic ineptness or the countless other events which occur year after year. Without dispute Human beings have caused a major amount of destruction. The extinction of how many species over time, pollution, and my favorite, “WAR”. Looking back through history “RELIGION” has killed more people and has cause more deaths dues to WAR than any single disease. All because of the lame belief that their GOD is better than someone else! Don’t believe me? Better start looking at the Muslims and Taliban radicals today. Or the “Crusades”, or the Inquisition, or what the Germans did to the Jews. Yes folks, that too was a religious war. Jesus, Mohamed, and Bhuda were all common men that did nothing except to inspire people how to live their life. None of them rose to become a GOD except in the minds of people who have been “brainwashed” into believing that what is written on a piece of paper to the actual fact. But we all know what is written on paper is that absolute truth, don’t we. New York Times, etc. Accountability? We are accountable to ourselves and to who we are, not to any GOD that only exists in your mind. If we as a human race became more accountable to each other instead of relying on some entity that doesn’t exist, we probably could start living in harmony. But that will never happen in my life time or the next 1,000 years. In 10,000 mankind as we know it will be gone. Why? because that’s just how Nature (Mother Nature or GOD) works. Get over it! If you need to believe in some super power to live your life then go for it. So far Billions of people do but I’m inclined to think otherwise.

Bravo, Bonlou Bravo. I always love your comments. You always have an answer to everyone. I believe Mother Nature is a false god. RIP, do you believe that evolution could have “carved” the world. That the human eye was random chance. If you believe in evolution what came first the blood, the veins the blood has to flow through, or the heart that pumps it? What is Mother Nature? Deana, do you really think man has made more mistakes than women. The Bible is not a fairytale. Have you ever been inspired to write something like a book or play. I have. Man do make mistakes but God inspired them to write the scriptures. If you believe in mother nature and not God, did Mother Nature decide to take a break from her position as god and come to die for our sins. If she did who would take over her position as “god” while she was gone. If she did’t how would we become saved. How do you know it was she is a “she” by the way. There has to be a sacrifice for the remishion of sins. We can’t get to heaven even with one sin. (Feel free to visit my blog where I talk about why you can’t get to heaven with even one sin. onegospelmessage.wordpress.com)

I totally 100% agree with Bonlou’s article about being fed up with the term ‘mother nature’ There is no such thing. Almighty God is Sovereign over His Universe and He does as He wills in the army of heaven and none can stay His hand or say to Him what are you doing. When are people going to wake up and humble themselves under God’s hand.

Thanks and amen Mal for your comments. It would be good for folks to go and read Job 38. This is a humbling chapter of scripture. It really puts us in our place.
