Does the phrase, “Mother Nature,” bug you as much as it does me? Who is in control anyway? God or Mother Nature?
I can’t believe I heard it again today on the news, “Mother Nature unleased her wrath again today!” They were talking about the awful tornados that tore their way across the country. Every time there is some unusual weather event someone called, “Mother Nature,” gets the blame or credit. Who is this Mother Nature anyway?
The dictionary says: Mother Nature, noun
“The personification of nature as a powerful and nurturing woman.”
Nature is everything that is not man-made according to the dictionary. Therefore, nature is God made.
Wikipedia says:
“Mother Nature is a personification of nature.”
Every time we get tornados, hurricaines, blizzards, floods, and other weather woes the news and weather media blame it all on Mother Nature. Not only that, but when we have wonderful weather and a beautiful day they say something like, “Mother Nature smiled on us today with this warm weather.” She gets the credit and the glory. So, what is the real story?
God says in Exodus 20:3, NASB “You shall have no other gods before Me.” This is one of the ten commandments, and is serious business.
God is to be praised and worshipped. Not other gods. We in our nation are getting very careless in this area. When we hear the phrase, “Mother Nature”, used over and over it becomes common. We use it without thinking of the true meaning behind it. Most of us wouldn’t intentionally praise another god.
Did you know that God is in control of the weather not Mother Nature?
The Bible has a lot to say about God and how He controls the weather.
(Psalms 78:26 NASB) He caused the east wind to blow in the heavens And by His power He directed the south wind.
(Psalms 107:25 NASB) For He spoke and raised up a stormy wind, Which lifted up the waves of the sea.
(Psalms 135:7 NASB) He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; Who makes lightnings for the rain, Who brings forth the wind from His treasuries.
(Psalms 148:8 NASB) Fire and hail, snow and clouds; Stormy wind, fulfilling His word;
(Proverbs 30:4 NASB) Who has ascended into heaven and descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has wrapped the waters in His garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name or His son’s name? Surely you know!
(Mark 4:39 NASB) And He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Hush, be still.” And the wind died down and it became perfectly calm.
God created the Heavens and the Earth and He controls the weather. So, you may ask, “Why does God allow this terrible weather to cause us all kinds of problems?” The answer is that God is Sovereign. He can do whatever He wants. He is in control and nothing gets by Him.
Have you ever stopped to think that God allows bad things to happen to our nation to get our attention? We have lost our moral footing. In our society today anything goes. The news certainly validates this. There used to be sin and shame, but it has been replaced with nothing is right or wrong.
But, God says:
(Colossians 3:5 NASB) Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.
(Colossians 3:6 NASB) For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon the sons of disobedience,
“The sovereignty of God is that golden sceptre in his hand by which he will make all bow, either by his word or by his works, by his mercies or by his judgements.” Thomas Brooks
The world says, “You can’t fool Mother Nature.” I say, “You can’t fool God.” He is still there, He is in control, and He holds us in the palm of His hand. We need to cry out for mercy!

Hi Ray,
As I am not a super Bible scholar, I did not think I could answer your question, so I took it to those who know much more than I do. Here is an answer:
———————————
Wrong question
Your question (why was “she” removed…) assumes that “she” belongs there. A better question would be “Why is this particular text translated the way that it is?” and “What would account for differences between translations?”. Get your hands on an interlinear Bible, a Hebrew dictionary, and a Hebrew Old Testament with Strong’s numbers (these are freely available on the internet) and work through the verses in Genesis. Even without any training in original languages you should be able to see that the references are generic. What you’ve assumed has been removed is only a manner of speaking. For example, I often refer to my car as a “good old girl” even though she can be as stubborn as a bull. Obviously my car is not a girl and neither is a bull.

and the soul; the principle of all life, whether to vegetables or animals. Some of the uses of the moon we are acquainted with; her causing the ebbing and flowing of the sea; and influencing, with a greater or smaller degree, all the fluids in the terraqueous globe. And many other uses she may have, unknown to us, but known to the wise Creator. But it is certain she had no hurtful, no unwholesome influence on any living creature.
My question is, why was she removed from the Bible?
Thanks, Ray

Hi Rip,
I’m enjoying our discussions too. You really got me thinking. You know what? You are right when you said, “That is all good and wonderful, but it is just too easy for me, to easy to believe, easy to understand.”
Today in our modern churches they are teaching “easy-believeism.” It seems one has to do is raise their hand and ask Jesus to come into their heart and they are saved forever to spend eternity in Heaven. Or, they might have them “walk the aisle,” and “come forward,” to receive Christ. Yes, this is too easy! And it is not true Christianity. Those churches want numbers, they want more members, and more money in my opinion.
There is a book written by John MacArthur called, Hard to Believe. This book shows us what is really necessary when we are “born again.” He shows us the cost it involves and it is not easy by any means. You can go to his website for further information. http://www.gty.org
On your journey have you every read Mere Christianity, by C.S. Lewis? I’ve never read it, but I’d like to. They say it is a very thought provoaking book.
Or, have you read, Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyon. I just read that this past year and it was also another thought provoking book. I think you’d like it.
Just to share a little about myself. I too took a spiritual journey. I was not brought up in a Christian home. I looked for answers everywhere I could. I went to fortune-tellers, I tried alcohol, I tried astrology, and even studied that and plotted my own horoscope. But, I still came up empty. Finally, when I was down and out my eyes were opened to Christ.
Blessings,
Bonnie

Ok. First, please do not quote Revelations or Gneiss. You may take their stories as literal translations, but I simply believe that they are just beautiful poetic expressions of man coming to grips with reality. Sorry but I just do not take them literally or seriously for that matter. I give them no credit for actually happening.
And Bonnie, Yes it is a free gift, and yes it does sound nice. But to me it sounds too good to be true… to easy. To be saved for all eternity all you have to do is believe in God. Jesus said he was god, a he died for us. Faith. That is all good and wonderful, but it is just too easy for me, to easy to believe, easy to understand. LIke I said earlier, I do believe in a Universal Self-Awareness, a force in the Universe which binds all things together, I do not, however, assign a name to it like ‘God’ or ‘Allah’ and I have a relationship with this through my relationship with myself. God It may be, but to me the reality we all share, the reality that is personal to us, is far too complicated and chaoitic to be all summed up in to some arbritairy thoughts in the statement, “Saved by grace through faith.”
I have always been a non-conformist is certain respects… The reason I have left christianity behind is because I am trying to find my own place in the Universe. I have kept reading, broadening my understanding of things, looked at the “Fire” which is life from different angles.
There was a point in my journey in which I had to cross a river. The river was wide and I could not swim the distance. So I built a raft and crossed. When I got to the other bank, I did not heave the heavy raft up onto my back and continue to carry it on my journey. I left the raft behind and walked along on my way…. The journey is life, religion is the river. I am grateful for this discussion, everyone. I have enjoyed it immensely.
