Does the phrase, “Mother Nature,” bug you as much as it does me? Who is in control anyway? God or Mother Nature?
I can’t believe I heard it again today on the news, “Mother Nature unleased her wrath again today!” They were talking about the awful tornados that tore their way across the country. Every time there is some unusual weather event someone called, “Mother Nature,” gets the blame or credit. Who is this Mother Nature anyway?
The dictionary says: Mother Nature, noun
“The personification of nature as a powerful and nurturing woman.”
Nature is everything that is not man-made according to the dictionary. Therefore, nature is God made.
Wikipedia says:
“Mother Nature is a personification of nature.”
Every time we get tornados, hurricaines, blizzards, floods, and other weather woes the news and weather media blame it all on Mother Nature. Not only that, but when we have wonderful weather and a beautiful day they say something like, “Mother Nature smiled on us today with this warm weather.” She gets the credit and the glory. So, what is the real story?
God says in Exodus 20:3, NASB “You shall have no other gods before Me.” This is one of the ten commandments, and is serious business.
God is to be praised and worshipped. Not other gods. We in our nation are getting very careless in this area. When we hear the phrase, “Mother Nature”, used over and over it becomes common. We use it without thinking of the true meaning behind it. Most of us wouldn’t intentionally praise another god.
Did you know that God is in control of the weather not Mother Nature?
The Bible has a lot to say about God and how He controls the weather.
(Psalms 78:26 NASB) He caused the east wind to blow in the heavens And by His power He directed the south wind.
(Psalms 107:25 NASB) For He spoke and raised up a stormy wind, Which lifted up the waves of the sea.
(Psalms 135:7 NASB) He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; Who makes lightnings for the rain, Who brings forth the wind from His treasuries.
(Psalms 148:8 NASB) Fire and hail, snow and clouds; Stormy wind, fulfilling His word;
(Proverbs 30:4 NASB) Who has ascended into heaven and descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has wrapped the waters in His garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name or His son’s name? Surely you know!
(Mark 4:39 NASB) And He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Hush, be still.” And the wind died down and it became perfectly calm.
God created the Heavens and the Earth and He controls the weather. So, you may ask, “Why does God allow this terrible weather to cause us all kinds of problems?” The answer is that God is Sovereign. He can do whatever He wants. He is in control and nothing gets by Him.
Have you ever stopped to think that God allows bad things to happen to our nation to get our attention? We have lost our moral footing. In our society today anything goes. The news certainly validates this. There used to be sin and shame, but it has been replaced with nothing is right or wrong.
But, God says:
(Colossians 3:5 NASB) Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.
(Colossians 3:6 NASB) For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon the sons of disobedience,
“The sovereignty of God is that golden sceptre in his hand by which he will make all bow, either by his word or by his works, by his mercies or by his judgements.” Thomas Brooks
The world says, “You can’t fool Mother Nature.” I say, “You can’t fool God.” He is still there, He is in control, and He holds us in the palm of His hand. We need to cry out for mercy!

Dear Bon,
As open minded as I try to be, I cannot get past one fact. The God you refer to is Man made. Created by Man to control man. You cant escape the fact that you are a typically brainwashed bible basher with a closed mind to what is the truth. And there it is in one simple word. We know the truth when it is told to us. Its inbuilt and needs no explanation. The truth about your sunday school God to have people live in fear less they burn in hell is not the God I want to know. God has no name. God is a word used as a reference point to stipulate what we are talking about. God has no name, its a power, a feeling, its Mother Nature. Its the force inside everything. You shouldnt go around spreading visious rumours about burning in hell. Perhaps you should focus on the wondermeant of life and not a man made book

Dear Greg, It is no use arguing the point with you. You do not believe in the God of the Bible, and I do. That is where we differ. Here is a scripture that comes to mind at the moment.
Psa 14:1 NASB For the choir director. A Psalm of David. The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they have committed abominable deeds; There is no one who does good.
Just to be clear. I do not believe the Bible to be a man made book. It is God’s holy word. It was God-breathed to men who wrote what God wanted them too. It is a supernatural, living work. It contains the truth about life and godliness. It is an instruction book on how to live our lives. A person can either accept it or reject it. That is where we differ. I try to live my life by the counsel of the Bible.
I am not a unhappy person who is afraid of burning in hell if I mess up. God is Love. He loves us and wants the very best for us. He has given us all the beauty of nature around us. I truly love nature and enjoy the birds, mountains, waterfalls, lakes, animals, flowers, and all that He has created with awe and wonder.

here is a perfect example of an indoctrinated mind ” Who do you want to follow, the imagined mother nature or the Real God of the Bible ” lol
that almost sounds like a Joke..
Where does one even start to correct a statement like that.
I’ll Try.. For those who consider Truth to be the most comforting virtue of all.. Then follow this reasoning
If asked, what is God.. ” I don’t know” is the most noble and sincere thing that any thinking person can say..
To say, ” I think”…………
Would be ok, because through discussion comes comfort, and through discussion comes better understanding over time..
To say that Nature is God is a not as safe as ” I Dont Know” But it’s a much safer assumption than to have to try and get your self to rationalize the laundry list of nonsensical truth claims made by the bible
So there you have it 🙂

Hi Chase, Thank you for the compliment. I’m happy that you realize I have an indoctrinated mind, which means that I have learned the teachings or doctrines which are in the Bible. I’ve been studying for years so I should have learned something by now.
It isn’t a joke. There is no Mother Nature period. But, there is a real God. Mother Nature is something like the fantasy of Santa Claus. They just do not exist.
You do not have to correct my statement because there is nothing to correct. 🙂
If I were asked “What is God?” I would know the answer, as the Bible tells us that God is a Spirit. So there you are. It also tells that God created everything including nature. Nature is God’s gift to us. You see the beauty of it all around you. But, God is not IN nature. It is His creation. He live outside of nature.
You believe the Bible is full of nonsense. I’m sorry that you feel that way. Have you ever read it with an open mind to try to disprove it? I challenge you to read, carefully, the Gospel of John and let me know what you think.
Also, if you are honest with yourself, you know in your heart there is a God.
Thanks for your comment.

I don’t understand how you can just say “There is no Mother Nature. Period”. Because as a human being, you can’t know that. The bible, one way or another, is man-made. Whether those are God’s true words or not. The bible is filled with laws that say that somehow humans are the “top dog” and they have the right to destroy and kill animals senslessly. Seems like the words of a man who just wants control and feel empowered. To think of nature as a caring, nuturing mother who governs the smaller things of this world seems pretty heatlhy to me.
And God is in Nature. Well, atleast for me. I can telll He’s been there.
P.S. I’ve read the bible, and honestly, there were parts I liked, like the very first chapter. But many parts left me disturbed.

It does not really matter what any of us believe – as long as we do not force our beliefs onto others.
I can no more prove that there is no god, than anyone reading this can prove that there is.
The concept of mother nature is far more ancient than the christian bible, it is the source of most religions which predated the bible and other patriarcal religions.
None of us will know what happens after we die – it will forever be a mystery. Some of us choose to imagine there is a heaven and hell beyond death and that we will all be ‘judged’ in some way by some parent figure god – others are happy to not know.
The world is a breathtakingly beautiful place – and it is beautiful whether you believe in god or not. Who made it does not matter – if any’thing’ made it at all. It does not take away from the beauty of it. Nature (or call it mother nature if you will), is indifferent to us – as news headlines every day prove to us. Devoutly religious people die, bad people die, good people die – just as with the animal kingdom (of which we are part), we are snuffed out from life without any thought. It just happens. As humans we don’t like the idea that there is no thought behind this, we want there to be a ‘reason’ why so and so died, or why various natural disasters happened. They will continue to happen long after we are gone, and happened long before we evolved into the human beings we are now.
What I wish, is that instead of us all arguing about what will happen after we die, and worrying about it. We shoudl concentrate on LIVING, and caring for those around us. You can’t go far wrong with that.
Life is what you make it – be the change you want to see in the world.

Yes, we should and do care about those around us now. Many of us volunteer to help the needy. That is a noble thing to do. But, that does not address the fact of eternity.
Man’s greatest need is to know where he will spend eternity. You can argue that it doesn’t matter, but it does.
If you are right and there is nothing beyond our death in this life, then what I believe isn’t hurting anything. If you are wrong and there is life beyond our death in this life, then you will have missed the chance to make your home in glory.
I believe the Bible and consider it the Authority. So, what the Bible claims is Truth. And, the Bible says that we will live forever, every one of us. We are born into eternity. We will either spend eternity in Heaven with our Heavenly Father, and Jesus Christ, or we will spend eternity in Hell and the Devil. Which will it be? It is up to you! There are no second chances after death. Now is the time to make up your mind.
Dear God, please open up the heart of this dear soul of yours and let him/her understand and know that you are real, and that they are a sinner and in need of a savior. Please Lord, break through the hard heart of unbelief and shed light into this heart. I pray in Jesus name, Amen.

I’m bothered by many people by the whole savior thing. If people believe something different than a Christian, then somehow they need to be “saved” when they could be a perfectly good person. They are fine the way they are, with their own religions.
I believe in God, and I also dearly respect Nature. If I believe God’s creatures, animals and humans alike have souls, what should stop me? Is it so bad.

I agree. We humans needed some reason to remain “good”. We needed something to live for. So we discovered Heaven because we felt the need to know that death is not the end, and we shouldn’t fear it.
