That is a very good question. What it boils down to is that there is only one true interpretation of scripture.

We find the meaning as we diligently apply the literal, grammatical-historical method of interpretation under the guidence of the Holy Spirit. Then, we can discover the application of that scripture.

As we look at a certain scripture we must see who wrote it, who was he talking to, what were the circumstances of that day and culture, and why was he writing it. Many words in the Greek can give us a better true meaning of what is being said. (This is why I need a good Bible teacher myself)

As we look at the scripture in the context it was written, noting what comes before it and after it, then we can know the true meaning of that scripture.

Today, there is much talk that we cannot know what the scriptures mean. This just isn't so if we study them correctly. The scripture actually interperts itsself.

It doesn't matter what my opinion of a portion of scripture is. It matters what God meant it to be.

Today, there is something called Open Theology, and in some Bible studies they use this method. They will take a scripture and go around and ask each individual, "what does this scripture mean to you?" Then, they all listen to the many different answers that are given. This is not the way to study the Bible. It doesn't matter what our opinions are. This kind of study does not help us know what the Bible actually teaches and only serves to confuse people.

The one thing I do not understand about the Bible is all the different interpretations of what the Bible says. What you interpret could be 180 from what I interpret. So who is correct?
