Does the phrase, “Mother Nature,” bug you as much as it does me? Who is in control anyway? God or Mother Nature?
I can’t believe I heard it again today on the news, “Mother Nature unleased her wrath again today!” They were talking about the awful tornados that tore their way across the country. Every time there is some unusual weather event someone called, “Mother Nature,” gets the blame or credit. Who is this Mother Nature anyway?
The dictionary says: Mother Nature, noun
“The personification of nature as a powerful and nurturing woman.”
Nature is everything that is not man-made according to the dictionary. Therefore, nature is God made.
Wikipedia says:
“Mother Nature is a personification of nature.”
Every time we get tornados, hurricaines, blizzards, floods, and other weather woes the news and weather media blame it all on Mother Nature. Not only that, but when we have wonderful weather and a beautiful day they say something like, “Mother Nature smiled on us today with this warm weather.” She gets the credit and the glory. So, what is the real story?
God says in Exodus 20:3, NASB “You shall have no other gods before Me.” This is one of the ten commandments, and is serious business.
God is to be praised and worshipped. Not other gods. We in our nation are getting very careless in this area. When we hear the phrase, “Mother Nature”, used over and over it becomes common. We use it without thinking of the true meaning behind it. Most of us wouldn’t intentionally praise another god.
Did you know that God is in control of the weather not Mother Nature?
The Bible has a lot to say about God and how He controls the weather.
(Psalms 78:26 NASB) He caused the east wind to blow in the heavens And by His power He directed the south wind.
(Psalms 107:25 NASB) For He spoke and raised up a stormy wind, Which lifted up the waves of the sea.
(Psalms 135:7 NASB) He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; Who makes lightnings for the rain, Who brings forth the wind from His treasuries.
(Psalms 148:8 NASB) Fire and hail, snow and clouds; Stormy wind, fulfilling His word;
(Proverbs 30:4 NASB) Who has ascended into heaven and descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has wrapped the waters in His garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name or His son’s name? Surely you know!
(Mark 4:39 NASB) And He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Hush, be still.” And the wind died down and it became perfectly calm.
God created the Heavens and the Earth and He controls the weather. So, you may ask, “Why does God allow this terrible weather to cause us all kinds of problems?” The answer is that God is Sovereign. He can do whatever He wants. He is in control and nothing gets by Him.
Have you ever stopped to think that God allows bad things to happen to our nation to get our attention? We have lost our moral footing. In our society today anything goes. The news certainly validates this. There used to be sin and shame, but it has been replaced with nothing is right or wrong.
But, God says:
(Colossians 3:5 NASB) Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.
(Colossians 3:6 NASB) For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon the sons of disobedience,
“The sovereignty of God is that golden sceptre in his hand by which he will make all bow, either by his word or by his works, by his mercies or by his judgements.” Thomas Brooks
The world says, “You can’t fool Mother Nature.” I say, “You can’t fool God.” He is still there, He is in control, and He holds us in the palm of His hand. We need to cry out for mercy!
Interesting thoughts. God is Spirit. We are created in His image. We are spirit and we are human. When we are saved we receive the Holy Spirit. When we die our spirits live on, along with our “self,” or personality. Only our physical bodies die. At some point we will receive a glorified body which is different from the one we have now but we will recognize one another.
The problem I see with the “Mother Nature,” theory, is that people want to follow her because they do not want to be accountable to anyone. They do not want to recognize that we are sinners. The Bible tells us that “all have sinned.”
Every one of us. And there is a price for sin and that is death.
For those people who do not come to grips with their own sinfulness in this life; there is waiting a hell of torment for them for eternity. That is pretty serious business and you ought to think twice about who you will follow.
Will you follow an imagined Mother Nature god, or the real God of the Bible? Satan loves to deceive people into following false gods. When then do they lose their souls and he wins them.

Bravo, Deanna. Bravo. I have been pondering thoughts such as these for many moons now and after reading your words I feel that I have moved closer to a decision about my spirituality. I was raised a Christian and born again. Alas, I fell into the fatal folly of reading, expanding my mind and beliefs. I could not get around this word “God”. The All Powerful, All Knowing, Supreme Being outside this universe. The idea that a man is out there knowing everything and not being a part of this universe troubles me. I don’t really call myself a christian anymore. Although, I am very spiritual. I believe in a binding force, a spirit, which is the universe. Brahman, Atman. These sorts of words describe it but they aren’t something you can latch on to. Mother Nature. What a beautiful idea. Mother Nature does not need a creator because the processes that brought about the universe, M-theory, super strings, The big bang, etc. are all part of Mother Nature. We are a part of Mother Nature as well, subject to Her processes of death and decay, rebirth and blooming. To say that we have dominion over Mother Nature is a bold move by us humans. Our behavior will be no exceptions to the fundamental physical laws. I know that when I die I will leave the realm of existence. I, the I which I call myself, will cease existing and the energy that exists within me will move back into Mother Nature’s realm.
Would God exist if we were not here to create such a thought?
P.S. I just sort of blabbed all this out in a conscious stream of thought. They are my feeling as of right now… or a moment ago from my current perspective.

Deanna,
I read all of what you wrote with interest. It sounds like you believe mother nature is God. I guess we have different views then. I believe God is God, the One and Only God. There are no others gods to be worshipped.
Where or how did mother nature come into existence?
I believe the Bible to be the infallable Word of God. I believe it is His inspired Word given by the Holy Spirit to men to write down for all of us.
Also, it doesn’t sound like you believe in Heaven or Hell. Am I correct? What do you believe happens to us when we die?
I think the most important thing is for us to think about what does happen to us when we die. I do believe in eternity. Where we will spend it is upper most on my mind.
I plan on spending it in Heaven, where will you be?
Blessings,
Bonnie

“Nature is everything that is not man made.” Man created the Bible. Man created the God in the Bible. Men made themselves superior by creating Adam first (just ridiculous if you think about it) and then Eve, who was merely a “helpful” afterthought. They gave themselves dominion over the animals so they could kill anything they wanted without feeling guilty. Later they added a male Messiah with a heavenly Father. There are many versions of Jesus’s life. The Church chose the version in which Mary Magdeline was a prostitute. The Nostic gospels, which the Church decided were “heresy,” portrayed her as a wealthy woman who became Jesus’ favorite Apostle. Pick your version, they are both myths. Before men wrote the Bible, the predominant religion was paganism — a relationship with Spirit as the Goddess. The American Indian had a similar form of spirituality. People loved the Earth, cherished her, gave her names like Hera & Gaia, and thought of her and all her creatures as sacred. People lived in harmony with Mother Nature… Mother Nature is the creative force of the universe — she is the universe and everything in it. To be fair, she does have a few male qualities as well — she seems to enjoy destroying old stuff in order to create from scratch again. It’s a favorite past time of hers. The cycle of birth, death, and rebirth is continuous and never ending. For those who lack faith, realize that (especially based on human behavior) it would be a safe bet that the creative force (Spirit) of the universe is mostly feminine rather than masculine, since men are responsible for most of the destruction that occurs here. If God were a predominantly masculine being, there would be no universe — can’t have destruction without first having a creation. Documented visions of divine beings have always recorded a female entity, not a male one — The Lady of the Lake, Our Lady of Guadelupe, Our Lady of Fatima, Our Lady of Lourdes. She also appears in potato chips, cream of wheat, animal markings, and water stains. She is all these things, and she leaves vision prints frequently. Why are we so committed to a patriarchal God (especially women — like, this is a woman’s website and she is positive that God is guy) — a God whom we must fear — who seems to have been manufactured in order to coerce us into thinking & behaving a certain way (and to give men the upper hand)? It is simply “learned behavior.” Mother Nature surrounds us with her majesty; she nurtures us & dwells in each one of us — our hearts beat without us having to think about it; more examples include digestion & metabolism, dreaming, being able to see, hear, smell, taste, and feel. Trees make fruit without the benefit of a brain because Spirit is inherently intelligent. Look for her in your backyard garden, in the wildlife of the sea, earth, and air, in the sunshine and the rain. You breathe her into yourself with every breath of air you take — the air we so thoughtlessly pollute with smoke & chemicals. Stop breathing, and she departs. The thunder, the sound of the ocean, the wind, the sounds of animals, and people — these are her voice. She is your conscience & your guardian angel. Ask her a question & wait for an answer — and if you listen, she will answer you. Mother Nature is God. And this is why some of us give her the credit & reverence she deserves.

Deanna, I’m sorry but that’s a lot of useless writing. you don’t have any evidence man created GOD. Everything you just said is based on sources that have been changed over time.
First, the Bible tells us “God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them” (Genesis 1:27). As God created both male and female in his image, he does not participate in one or the other gender, but rather transcends gender.
Furthermore, while the Bible uses masculine titles for God, such as Father and Son, it also employs feminine images for God, such as mother (Isaiah 49:14–15; 66:13) and midwife (Isaiah 66:9). Likewise, his judgment of Israel is likened to that of a mother bear robbed of her cubs (Hosea 13:8). Whether masculine or feminine, all such images are anthropomorphisms or personifications that reveal God to us in ways we can understand.
As God created both male and female in his image, he does not participate in one or the other gender, but rather transcends gender.
Deanna, I advice you to look up: near death experience videos of people that did not want anything to do with GOD, there are atheist there too. I wouldn’t go ahead and dismiss the idea of a GOD if I was you.
Do you really think that everything in history that others have taught us; is all true? absolutely NOT.
But i really believe that there is a god. I’d really like for you to tell me why is it that you believe everything based on what you think its true from whatever sources you used?

Seriously Jesse, calling the person’s writing “useless” because you disagree with their beliefs? It’s hypocritical garbage like that which pushed me away from my former religious beliefs. All you’re doing by making comments like that is causing more people not want to follow your belief system.
